Resolution of a life-threatening post-pneumonectomy bronchopleural fistula associated with empyema

The management of a post-pneumonectomy bronchopleural fistula associted with empyema is still a challenging issue for Thoracic Surgeons. A new multimodal technique is presented: surgical closure of the bronchial stump with a costal cartilage graft covered by a muscular pedicle flap and endoscopic positioning of a fully-covered self-expandable metallic stent.
