The prevalence of both chronic renal diseases and male infertility belonging to the reproductive age group is high, so it becomes important to look out for a possible relation between the two and its impact on the future child bearing options for the couple. Studies have showed that many men with renal failure exhibit subfertility or infertility due to several factors including hormonal imbalance, testicular damage, ejaculatory dysfunction or defects in spermatogenesis like oligoazoospermia, asthenoazoospermia, teratozoospermia etc. The fertility issues caused due to the chronic inflammation in renal failure are not completely reversed even after transplantation or nephrectomy. Thus it becomes imperative to study the correlations between the various chronic renal diseases and the reproductive parameters affected by them. This can provide us with a basis for pre transplant planning of future fertility needs and novel reproductive technologies such as sperm freezing techniques can come in handy in such cases.
